Java Desktop links of the week, May 31

A little early this week, given that I'm travelling to JavaOne tomorrow, which is when I'd normally write Java Desktop links of the week. Somewhat expectedly, it is another quiet week.

On with the news:

General

• If you're going to JavaOne, and want your books signed, here is the book signing schedule . I'm taking two of my Java books with me to JavaOne :-)

Swing

• Kirill Grouchnikov released final releases of his Substance and Flamingo projects. He also concluded his series on animation blueprints for Swing, in two final posts .
• Rob Camick published an example of a Swing text component that can show the line numbers to the left of the text . The source code is available for you to use in your own projects.
• In a comment to last weeks post, I was informed of Jajuk Advanced Jukebox , a music organiser / player written using Swing.
• A font chooser, written in Swing , has been made available by Connectina for free use in your applications, licensed under the LGPL.
• Alex Ruiz let me know that FEST-Swing 1.2a2 has just been released . FEST-Swing is a Java library that provides a fluent interface for functional Swing GUI testing.

JavaFX

• Part 3 of Haining Henry Zhang series on building a Pac-Man game in JavaFX has been published . This part focuses on animating the ghosts. I never thought I'd write that sentence.
• Claudio Santini posts details about his crayon physics game, written in JavaFX . It takes a wee while to download, but it is quite impressive. Clearly there is much work to be done to reach the quality of the game it is based on, but impressive use of JavaFX technology nonetheless. Plus, the music makes for a refreshing and relaxing background tune whilst you work :-)
• Piliq.com posts about their entry into the JavaFX coding competition, which is a Google Chat client written in JavaFX . It would be much better if it had access to normal Swing components, but of course that wasn't a luxury they had.
• Simon Morris posts about 'thinking declaratively in JavaFX ', in particular the parsing of an XML file.

Griffon

• Andres Almiray let me know that Jim Shingler has announced the first public release of gConfig 0.1 , a configuration tool for Griffon , a Groovy Technology.
• Speaking of Andres (you'd think he had a vested interest in Griffon), he also let me know that Geertjan Wielenga has been busy getting tooling support in NetBeans 6.7 for Groovy and Griffon. He outlines what he did in two blog posts .
